Furniture hoisting: when it is needed and how it works
Not every piece of furniture fits through the door, the stairs or the elevator. When that happens, the solution is hoisting, raising or lowering the piece along the outside of the building, through a window or balcony. See when it is needed and how it is done safely.
What furniture hoisting is
Hoisting is the technique of raising or lowering furniture and large items along the building's facade, using ropes, pulleys and the right equipment, when they do not fit through the internal passages. It is common in apartments with narrow doors, curved staircases or small elevators.
When you will need it
- The piece is bigger than the entrance door or the elevator opening;
- The staircase has tight turns that block the way through;
- Bulky items such as sectional sofas, side-by-side fridges, assembled wardrobes, jet skis or large works of art;
- Apartments without an elevator on high floors, where carrying up the stairs would be unfeasible.
How it is done safely
Hoisting is carried out by a trained team, with ropes and equipment sized for the weight of the piece. The furniture is packed and protected, secured safely and moved slowly through the window or balcony, always with support points and signage in the area below. It is technical work and should never be improvised.
What affects the price
The cost of hoisting varies with the floor (height), the weight and size of the piece, the number of items to hoist and the site conditions (balcony, type of window, space below). That is why it goes into the moving quote in a personalized way, after the assessment.
